BLOCK & TACKLE 1.3
Block & Tackle 1.3 stops spam based on unwanted subject line and body phrases as well as
by blacklisting unwanted senders, domains and server IP addresses. B&T 1.3 also provides
the ability to whitelist those senders, domains and servers that you know you want mail from,
thus ensuring messages from key customers and business partners will always get through.
Another of Block & Tackle's capabilities is the ability to block unwanted attachments such as
EXE and PIF files. This feature provides a "first line of defense"
against email-borne viruses by deleting unwanted types of email
attachments.
B&T relieves you of the number one problem with email today - spam. Never again
will your users have to delete messages such as "Feel Younger Now!"
or "Great Deal!"!
B&T's attachment blocking feature works in one of two modes:
either choose the file types you're willing to accept, or choose
those types you don't want. You can switch between modes at will
as well - the lists are kept in separate text files that can be
edited from our configuration applet or by any text editor. A
new feature in version 1.2 is the ability to block the entire
message if a prohibited attachment is found instead of just
stripping the attachment.
B&T can inform senders when it blocks a message or attachment.
This is useful for legitimate senders whose messages are blocked
accidentally, and the feature can be easily activated or turned
off as desired.
B&T's ability to archive an unaltered copy of
a message that has been blocked or that has an attachment deleted means that
you can always recover messages that are critical.
The archived message can be forwarded to any mailbox on the Exchange
server or on a separate mail system, or can be forwarded to an
Exchange public folder if desired.
Block & Tackle can be configured to log the actions it takes to
a daily log file. You can choose which details to record, including
the date and time, action taken, intended recipient, the sender and
the IP address of the sending server. The log file rolls over daily
to a new file, providing a manageable set of data to look through
as desired. Older logs can be deleted as desired.
Block & Tackle can run on your existing Exchange 2000/2003 server or,
if you prefer, on a Windows 2000/2003 server with the IIS SMTP
service installed. This allows you to use Block & Tackle to protect
any SMTP compliant email system (Exchange 2000, Exchange 5.5, Lotus Notes
and others) by inserting a Block & Tackle server between
that system and the Internet!

emails to catch-all mailboxes on a domain-by-domain basis.
